The Skyrim Elysium modpack has become a big deal for many players, a huge curated batch of mods, enhancements, changes and customisation options that elevate the fifth Elder Scrolls game and turn it into something new and fresh. However, there's a lot of questions worth answering in advance: how does the Elysium modpack change Skyrim, how do you install it, and is it worth going through the effort? We'll explain below, as well as the Elysium estate mod that's also been very popular.

The Skyrim Elysium modpack is a massive general upgrade for Skyrim that includes hundreds of new mods to add new quests, items, graphics, characters and more, some of which expand into whole new locations and additions to the world. Elysium is also designed to be fully compatible with the Creation Club (though it's not mandatory that you have Creation Club content added). As with all mods, a certain amount of "buyer beware" should be remembered - we've only heard positive things about the Elysium modpack and creator TitansBane, but you are altering your game and computer regardless. It's always important to exercise caution accordingly.
The Elysium modpack contains dozens of mods, which alter pretty much every aspect of the game in some way or another, ranging from minor enhancements and tweaks to major redesigns. It even includes the original Forgotten City mod, a whole new questline that became its own critically-acclaimed standalone game. Players and prospective downloaders can find the mod list here.
At time of writing, Skyrim Elysium is PC and Steam exclusive - it's not available on the Xbox or PlayStation ports. It's also not compatible with any form of the Anniversary Edition, though players who have the Special Edition released previously will still be able to play it. The cause of this appears to be several key coding alterations that mean it's not currently compatible with the Wabbajack modpack installation program. Until we hear otherwise, we can't recommend using it either, though it's very likely that efforts are underway to make Wabbajack work with the new form of the game, along with all the previous mods.
One of the easiest ways to make Skyrim look better is to install an all-in-one texture pack. Skyrim Realistic Overhaul gets the job done admirably without slowing down one's system to a crawl. The mod itself is massive and covers a little bit of everything when it comes to re-texturing various objects.
As far as retexture mods are concerned, the Skyrim 2020 Parallax mod by Pfuscher is still relevant in 2022. As an all-in-one package, this mod is a gargantuan texture pack composed of approximately 2,000 files. Fans who want to install everything the mod has to offer can expect several gigabytes worth of content.
It's worth noting that even the largest retexture packs can't cover every object in this massive game. Some of the less important items, such as junk and clutter, are often overlooked. Luckily, fans don't have to hunt down a myriad of individual mods to satisfy their needs for enhanced clutter.
A pretty hefty collection of high-quality replacements for Skyrim textures, covering everything from equipment, landscapes, dungeons, and architecture. While they look much nicer, the textures are the same resolution as Bethesda's high-res DLC pack so it shouldn't slow you down.
Serenity 2 brings a mostly unadulterated Requiem experience coupled with the various content add-ons and graphical facelifts. Requiem is a roleplaying overhaul mod that changes nearly all gameplay mechanics of Skyrim.
Septimus, as a modlist, hits the sweet spot in almost all aspects. From Simonrim-based vanilla+ gameplay mechanics overhaul to a wide assortment of new quests and regions, Septimus covers almost all aspects of the game, running quite smoothly. This modlist also features support for the content added by the Anniversary Edition.
Falksaar even introduced a new soundtrack just for the mod, accompanying that change with some new shouts, items, and spells. Everything about the mod feels very official, with a lot of polish added to its new contents. There's so much to unpack with this mod that it is difficult to detail it all here, but rest assured that it is one of the most lore-friendly interpretations of additional content within Skyrim's mod community, and any Elder Scrolls fan owes it to themselves to pick it up and check out a whole new side of Skyrim.
Skyrim Redone doesn't teleport your character to some far away land or add a ton of new quests and voice acting to the game. Instead, Skyrim Redone overhauls the base game from its mechanics to its racial modifiers to its skill trees. The mod also dramatically changes combat, including encounter scaling, and provides a much more complex experience than the one that was delivered in Bethesda's version. If you want the full details on what Skyrim Redone does to the game, they're available here; just note that the mod literally has over 100 pages of notes tracking the many changes it makes, so you're going to be there a while.
A modders work is never done; once you've installed your first texture pack, modding becomes a game in itself. That being said, it's hard not to when such impressive work is being continually made and updated through sheer force of will. Skyrim is five-years-old, ancient by modern standards, yet the love the community has shown for Skyrim -- and the Elder Scroll series as a whole -- is still strong. Download these mods and you'll end up wondering where the official world ends and the unofficial begins.
The Daedric armor and weapon improvement mod provides you with textures and meshes that revamp the already cool-looking Daedric weapons in the game. This pack also supports armor that adapts to changing body weight during character creation.
